Mister “Guru” Makes Shockingly Stupid Copywriting Mistake
Okay, so I was “surfing” the web last night looking for a copywriting course that I really want to buy.
Yeah, I know I have like five hundred copywriting books on my shelves, but I really was in a buying mood. And you know how money burns a hole in your pocket if you don’t spend it, right?
I swear, I would have bought anything with a “BUY NOW” button, but here’s the problem…
I couldn’t find the “Buy Button”.
Because Mister “Guru” doesn’t have “Buy Button” anywhere in sight…
This guy is one of the greatest copywriters on planet earth. He has hundreds of affiliates promoting this product right now (most of them in my inbox by the way) but I can’t for the life of me find the “click here to order” button. What’s up with that?
I mean, I’ve seriously clicked ALL of the links in every rabbit-killing e-mail that mentions his product. Some even say “click here to buy X today” but NONE of them lead to any page that lets me buy.
Gosh, when I signed up for this guys list, he promised me some FREE training and I gave up because I couldn’t even find it. Every time I went to his site, the only option – and I mean THE ONLY OPTION – is to sign-up for his mailing list – which I’ve done seven times.
But you know what? Well, I’ll tell you what…
Most Network Marketers make the EXACT same mistake.
I wish I was kidding…
They spend all this time writing articles, filming videos, and hosting webinars and they never let people know how to contact them to “BUY IN” to whatever it is they’re selling.
Now, some people don’t want to be contacted, and that’s totally cool. I mean, I don’t post my phone number on my websites. But I’m not trying to recruit anybody either.
The problem is, MOST people WANT to be contacted…
They would be THRILLED if five people called them up every single day and wanted to join their downline. They would be ECSTACTIC if anybody bought their $47 dollar e-book. They would throw a PARTY if somebody bought their $497 dollar coaching program. BUT…
They won’t even leave a phone number…
A mailing address…
A simple “product page” with a “click here to order button”.
And the sad thing is, they are literally THROWING money out the window!
But, I guess they’re saving you money too, right?
Obviously, when you can get the top training in the world without the fluff in What’s Working Now for like the price of a Starbuck’s coffee…(And if you ever bought a Starbucks coffee you know that’s barely an exaggeration).
By the way, I believe Mike Dillard is closing that out soon…
So if you haven’t watched the full video – this might be your last chance to snag those cool bonuses, see what it’s all about, and whether or not it’s right for you.
Now, this is my affiliate link for the program, I will make some coffee change if you buy from almost any link on this website, so keep that in mind. If you would rather “rip me off” and pay the same price anyway (because you hate me or something) then you can buy What’s Working Now by clicking here too.

Hey Jason,
Thanks for sharing this experience. I know we make mistakes. However, I hope I don’t make a mistake like that. That sucks for the individual that had that information. They lost a great buyer, who has a great followers.
Have a wonderful day…

The sad part is, I know this guy is an amazing copywriter so I’ll probably buy the thing once I find a button to do so.
But I’m wondering how many people are not going to?
More than most would imagine.

The fear of asking for a sale.
As much as we are giving value freely I think some people don’t know how to cross the line and make an offer for people to purchase. << Crazy, we are in business after all.
Or
They just clean forget. Not sure which is worse.
I see you are doing well in the ranking for the R8, good on you. Can cartoons drive real cars? I guess that's a good problem to have).
Have a great Thursday.

Hey Jason,
I hear John Carlton is offering his simple writing system (I think it’s going live today) right now.
Have you gone through the course?
No doubt it’s top top top notch, and worth every penny (its not cheap) but was wondering about some of the details from someone who went through it.

I like doing my listening while doing a workout as well.
Hopefully someday soon Mike and company will have all of their courses available in MP3 format so I can listen at the gym or in the car. Or even a video format compatible for iPod’s would be cool too.

Hey Matthew,
There are a few portions that are available like that.
I have several on my ipod, but it would be cool to have like an
entire audio product, Magnetic on the go.

And some times it just comes down to giving people simple instructions too.
I was using a program the other day when an error message popped up…
Only it didn’t “pop” up… it was tiny.
So here I am spending an hour figuring it out… when the instructions were right there hidden in plain sight…

Oh wow! What a costly mistake!
I haven’t come across a site like that yet. However, I keep on visiting blogs with no way to leave a comment or contact the person. That’s not a good thing either.
Great reminder, Jason!

I’m surprised by how many people hide their contact info… it’s okay when the gurus do it… but that’s because people are beating down their doors.

Hey Jason,
Something similar happened to me the other day. I was trying to buy a course through an email message, but the link took me to a different course, on a totally different subject.
I tried to find my way to the course I was after, and eventually got aggravated and opted out of the mailing list.

Guilty as charged. The other day somebody contacted me via my opt-in list and said that they wanted to call me, but could not find my number on my blog.
I wish you were talking about some other dumb marketers.
Funny/sad thing is I still have not added my contact info. Better get off my rear and do it now.

Hey J-
I was in Staples earlier to pick some software and they even had the “EASY” button out at the register.
A well known health & nutrition company recently implemented a new policy where you can not see their prices unless you email the distributor with your address and they have to send back a password to access prices.
I feel this will have a major impact on their sales. Some people like the convenience of click and buy, not a 3-step process, what do you think?
The same goes for marketing companies, I used to use a system that used information packets for interested prospects. I look at it as the same as not finding that “buy button”.
Why is that?
Because you are looking for a “button” to purchase valuable information about a business opportunity and instead you receive testimonies on how the business is great and Joe Shmoe made ten thousand a month five years ago, yet the person recruiting has only been in the company for 5 minutes and can’t answer a single question.
This is the reason some people (not all) get a bad taste for this Industry (plus they never figured out how to read the fine print, lol).
Just thought I would dive into this deeper;
does this make sense to everyone?
Have a great day,
Tommy D.

Now that’s what I need!
An Easy Button.
It makes perfect sense to me.
I can understand why they might not want to share prices…. but that seems a little extreme… almost sneaky even.

Hi Jason
How true!
Those one’s did save me piling up on more courses and back to what I should be doing anyway.
As Wayne said though it is the balance (well done #1 possie!) As you’ve said previously though, check the details even if it means writing the steps up on the wall so nothing is missed. PS I’m running out of wall – LOL

Hey Tracey,
Just checked out your site and all I could see was the form
on your contact page. Bad idea.
And here’s why…
Forms actually scare people away. Your best bet is to make your
contact info as available as possible. Nix the form unless you have a
very specific use for it… or unless you’re just using it for feedback from readers.
In a sense, you have to ask yourself,
“Would I run this as an ad in the local newspaper?”
Would I expect to get replies?
So needs some text… some nudging… maybe even a call
to act, or pick up the phone.
Hope that helps.

I am feeling this post,
Just met with some alleged “Gu – Ras” (my new word) and the first thing they asked was how I planned on converting people to my business X. All I have is an opt-in and they kinda laughed at me. I was a little upset till I realized one was Mexican and probably wasn’t here legally anyway.
Anyway, I have visited sites that I was the same mindset of I will BUY whatever they have, but the opportunity was never presented.

Jason,
My favorite part of this post is “If you would rather “rip me off” and pay the same price anyway (because you hate me or something) then you can buy What’s Working Now by clicking here too.”
I never understood why people will refuse to pay an affiliate and go out to google something they heard about from an affiliate so they can purchase it from the main domain.
What’s even stranger is most people who do this ARE affiliate marketers! Crazy.
What comes around, goes around.

It’s bizarre.
I mean, I’m grateful when somebody introduces me to a product. If I don’t buy it right away then I will actually go back and look for their affiliate link later.
But, oh well…
Some people are totally messed up.

Hey Jason,
Thank you for the article. It reminded me of the costly lesson I had about 7 years ago when I was selling jewelry online.
I just dumped a bunch of money into the site. And I was all excited about getting it out there and makin’ sales.
Loaded up my ppc with $3500 and grand visions of success galore
I checked my stats and seen I was getting traffic and the ppc was burning up the money
And for brief moment I couldn’t wait to check my merchant account.
Then had one of those moments that feels like your get smacked up side the head with a 2 x 4.
I forgot to take the site out of test mode.
and $3500 went puff out into virtual never never land
So know, I am a freak at making sure everything works
Thanks again ![]()

Jason, Sorry for doing you out of your coffee change because Mike’s direct email was the first one that hit my inbox so I bought WWN direct from Mike. But don’t feel left out because I passed by on Ferny’s, Brian Fanale’s, Ann Seig’s, Mike Hobb’s and a few others that I did out of coffee change.
But man you find out when you buy it why Mike is the Master Marketer. He didn’t have just one “Buy it Now” button but I think I counted at least six buttons with different offers with which he hooked me on a couple but I ended up with buyers remorse before I bought his ultimate offer of his whole brain which I believe is the offer of the century.
