How To Find A Mentor Or Coach – Your Guide Up MLM Mountain

Finding A Network Marketing Mentor Or CoachI always loved the saying: “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” It’s a reminder that help will come to those who help themselves, no sooner. But I do think there’s something to be said for speeding up the process and finding yourself a teacher too.

A Guide Up MLM Mountain

Somebody who’s been where you’re going. Somebody who knows all the peaks, ledges, and footholds. Somebody who knows what to pack for the trip. Somebody who knows what creatures lurk in the mountain caves and how to mask the smell of fear.

How To Find Your Guide Up MLM Mountain

It’s a common misconception that mentorship is always a structured organization or plan. The truth is, you’ll probably have to find your mentor on your own and set your own terms. You’ll have to build a relationship with someone you trust to guide you. And you’ll have to give them something in return for their advice.

I recommend approaching your heroes. Successful men and women in the industry. Some will be too busy to help you out, but persistence will often work in your favor. It’s a numbers game like recruiting. A referral from a mutual friend can be a blessing, but most people will have to rely on courage and picking up the phone. Although, these days, an e-mail or a Tweet can blaze the trail too.

What’s in it for them?

It’s important to understand your mentor. Some, like coaches, make money mentoring; there’s nothing wrong with that. Others, have been really successful in life and just want to give back. Sometimes a work arrangement is best. Where you give your talents and time freely in return for guidance and sometimes wages. But every relationship is different, you have to find one that works for you.

Three Alternatives to mentors or coaches:

Team Mentor: Instead of a mentor, you might build yourself a team. Two brains are better than one. Think of Siegfried and Roy, Penn and Teller, or Mutt and Jeff. The Three Stooges, the Three Musketeers, or Charlie’s Angels. There’s strength in numbers.

Mini-Mentors: It’s okay to have more than one mentor. You can have a mentor for your recruiting skills, and another for blogging. Don’t neglect mentors who are less than famous either. Everyone has their own talents. You can learn from everybody.

Masterminds: If you’ve read “Think And Grow Rich” then you know the power of building a mastermind group. Not necessarily the same group you work with every day. But a group of people with a single goal, whether it’s personal improvement or business. It’s one of the best kept secrets of success.

An Interesting Epitaph

The great billionaire Andrew Carnegie wrote in his epitaph, “Here lies a man who was able to surround himself with men far cleverer than himself.” You should do the same if you want to climb the to the peaks of MLM mountain.

Do You Have Already Have Mentor or A Coach?

How did you find them, or did they find you? What’s the experience been like? Show us you’re alive by sharing with the group. I think I see Mitchell Dillman over there raising his hand, he’s always willing to share. So why don’t you?

Talk soon,

Jason The “Better Networker”

Jason Better

P.S. Nuff said for today. I think this is a topic worth serious thought. Nothing will do more for your success than working with people who have been where you’re trying to go. If you’re trying to do everything by yourself then you’ll freeze to death on MLM mountain.

Mmm Jason, interesting…

Are you tapping my phones again?

We’re just preparing to do a back-country ski trip…These can be very dangerous it you’re not familiar with the area. I always rely on my experts when taking to the mountains in winter. We work as a team and always have a blast!

Jason, some time back I forgot to tell ya…I consider you to be one of my mentors. Hope you’re okay with that ;-)

I’ve also actively engaged a group of us who are now building something which will soon eclipse anything that’s been done. My new ‘brothers’ and I are so much stronger as a team than we could ever be on our own…True Synergy in Action! It’s a real syndication of Champions.

We meet 2 times a week for up to 3 hours and have, in no time at all, set some things in motion which I’d love to tell you more about, but…. I’d have to kill ya.

Stay tuned my friend, and keep on keepin’ on!

Hey man, by the way, I’ve been busy pumping out tons of articles and content all over the place…just found out several recent articles are being featured in some high-traffic sites and it’s all thanks to your leadership and my MASSIVE ACTION!

You are the mentoring MANual ;-)

Thanks, Your buddy,

Mitchell Dillman

Well Mitchell as you are my upline coach and sponsor I had better grab hold of your backpack and hang on because I am also a mountain man but my mountains aren’t quite as high as yours yet.

I am a firm believer in “When the student is ready, the teacher comes”. I personally am living in a dangerous place as i am “in between mentors” having recently lost one. Looking to 2010 for a fresh start

Hey there Jason –

The whole concept of mentoring is new to for the last 4 years and it’s really helped create some momentum in my business.

I never understood why they were so important, then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Duh!!! If they’ve done it, then maybe I can learn something from them. Ah ha!

I’ve been a part of Robert Kiyosaki and Robert Allen’s mentoring programs and they really opened my eyes.

I also discovered and still continue to use these as mentors, authors as being extremely valuable to my success.

Authors like Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, Darren Hardy, etc. have inspired me to being great. And so far, it’s been a great ride, although it’s only begun.

Hey Jerome,

That must have been something special.
I’m a big fan of Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad
books. I can only imagine what the mentoring
must have been like.

Oh man, and Jim. You know, I still can’t see
Jim Rohn’s name without feeling a sense of loss.
That man changed so many lives… it was tough for
me seeing someone so immortal pass away…

He’ll live on through his audio. But dearly missed.

J.

Another great post.

What I find amazing is being a ’student mentor’. I still have a lot to learn which I do daily from various sources (JB, your one of them). But I also have a lot to give, which I love doing. A good working mix.

Mitch, well done for getting a mention. We have spoke briefly and it definitely sounds like you have your business on fire. Can’t wait to see what you and your team have in store for us.

Dwayne,

I think learning is one of those things
that never ends.

I still have a lot to learn too. I have an
acquaintance who once mentored under
a big name copywriter… one of the
old school legends.

He said, the master still didn’t know everything.
He kept on learning with a humble attitude. That’s
probably what made him so great in the first
place.

Hi Jason,

Like Mitchell, I also have some mentors that I’ve never met in person or talked to over the phone.

For example: I’ve learned a lot from you, Mike Dillard, Jim Rohn, T. Harv Eker, Andre Vatke, Joe Schroder.

I’ve never personally met any of you, except online or briefly at seminars, yet I’ve learned a ton and modeled myself after all you guys.

I’ve paid for some of this info, but I’ve also got a lot for free and I give a big and sincere thanks to all of you.

However, I have had the pleasure to have personal phone conversations with Diane Hochman and that has accelerated my progression quite a bit!

So I give a big thanks to the great Diane Hochman, as well.

Feels great to acknowledge the people who have had such a profound impact in my professional life!

Last but not least, my wife, Monique, is a yin to my yang and we have formed quite a mastermind ourselves.

Sincerely,
Derek

G’day Derek,

I’m a huge fan of the content Diane
uploads to Better Networker. It’s awesome that
took the initiative and got on the phone with
her.

She definitely has personality.

Huge fan of Mike D too. My copy of Magnetic Sponsoring
looks like a rainbow with all the underlining. lol

You’re my mentor and coach Jason. Thank you. I’ve learned so much here and on Better Networker. My upline doesn’t help me at all. It’s very frustrating not having any guidance, but I’m not giving up.

Jason Reply:

This is something I hear quite often Jackie.

Uplines are so busy recruiting that they forget to
build up the people under them. Sometimes we
have to let them go and find our own mentors.

That’s almost like an affirmation: “I’m Not Giving Up!”

I think those words have helped me more than
anything else. :-)

I find that this post is so appropriate for the launch of WWN – What’s Working Now … This is going to be super cool for those who are looking for a huge group of coaches all in one place!
How Exciting!
