Waking Up As Jason Better…

Jason Better BreakfastThis morning I woke up with a smile. My feet hit the floor, I shimmied into the shower, brewed a fresh pot of coffee, fried some eggs and checked my e-mail inbox. But you know what?

I’ll tell you what…

It was chock full of spam! You guys sent me so many articles I’ll be busy till next Valentine’s day! But I guess I asked for it – so thank you.

Gosh, you’re interfering with my other spam…

I’ve signed up for so many mailing lists that I can’t even see the bottom of the first page of my e-mail inbox. And you’re making it awfully hard for me to read my spam. You pain in the… neck.

And yes, I do read my spam…

In fact, since I asked for all of it, like most people these days, I guess you can’t really call it “spam” at all. It’s more like a free education in how people are making money right now.

Like this one guy, I’ve been following his video series lately and picked up more than a few killer video tips. It totally rocks.

Or this copywriter dude I read everyday. He really has his act together and he’s always sending out weird and wacky e-mails. Kinda like I do.

Or this surfer dude, I watch all of his videos too. I think there’s something shifty about him, but he knows his stuff and it’s worth every penny.

But now it’s all buried under your articles…

So please, stop submitting articles to me, I have a pile now, and you’re making it really hard for me to pick the first official Jason Better Approved Guest Post…

I know the post only got like 11 “retweets”, but I think that’s cuz everybody was busy e-mailing me articles. I definitely have more than 11 sitting in my inbox waiting to be read. So ummmm… thank you.

New Regulations…

Next time, I’ll have to make it harder to submit. I’ll set up a burning hoop of fire over a poisonous pond of alligators, followed by a pit of bamboo spikes. The final winner will be chosen by that American Idol dude – Simon Cowell.

That should save some time, right?

Anyway, I think I’m getting off track here…

What I meant to say, is that there’s a whole world of free education out there and it’s probably sitting in your inbox. So take some time some day and actually read those e-mails…

Especially mine… ;-)

It’s okay if you read that Mike Dillard guy’s e-mails from time to time too, but he learned everything he knows from little old me… kidding.

But seriously, I know a lot of people are on a budget and they can’t really afford to buy all of the really cool training systems out there right now, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up. Take all the free training you can get. Invest your money wisely in a product you trust and use it.

After that, pick another product you trust from your inbox, and go through that one too. Before you know it, you’re an old pro at this stuff.

As long as you apply what you learn.

What Successful Network Marketers Do…

You’ll notice that successful network marketers devour every course out there. They buy every book, course, video, and whackamadoodle. And they actually take the time to go through them…

I said “take” because nobody has any more time than anybody else…

That’s not to say that we always use it wisely. I’m as guilty as anybody else.

But one part of my routine that I always look forward too is checking my inbox in the morning and seeing what people are selling.

Some days I don’t have time to watch all the videos or read all the e-mails. But it’s a good way to kick start the day with fresh ideas.

How Do You Kick Start Your Day?

Maybe, you’re a little more energetic?

I know some guys get up, drink three raw eggs mixed with razor blades, hike up a volcano with a tiger on their back and then hit the gym.

That’s what you do, right?

Hey Jason,

I thought I was one of the few that actually likes to read the spam email. I use it to learn what marketers are saying and doing.

But sometimes I’ll catch some weird stuff.

Chat with you later…

the years… but at the very least… you can
learn from the bad ones too.

Hey Jason,

No Shark Tank? That’s my favorite hurdle.

As for the free info, The Best Things In life Are FREE.

Seriously though, most of the paid ecourses have a free or cheap start up, use that to earn enough to buy the really good stuff.

Michael,

It’s crazy what people are giving away
these days.

I’ve spent more money on books than most
people would think is sane… then watch all
the goods get spilled in the next product launch
video for free. :-)

Totally cool though, I’m a big fan of free.

Hmmm, getting an education from spam. Not a bad idea. However, right now, I’m trying really hard to not spend a lot of time on email. I’m trying to break the addiction. But when I do, I will start reading the spam.

Tracey,

But then you’ll miss out on all the cool launches.

I love seeing how other people market themselves. :-)

Hey, Ja’!
I use to read everything in my my inbox… but then I found that I was receiving so much that I could not catch up. I would have to get up each day a half an hour before I went to bed and read all day long. Now I am just picking and deleting. I realize I am probably missing out on some really good educational information. Maybe I should get back into habit once again.
Thanks, Jason.

It’s 2:15am in Australia… i blame your blog for my lack of sleep…

“Next time, I’ll have to make it harder to submit. I’ll set up a burning hoop of fire over a poisonous pond of alligators, followed by a pit of bamboo spikes. The final winner will be chosen by that American Idol dude – Simon Cowell.” Ah that made me laugh.

I always seem to get sidetracked from having to many courses, books, random rss feeds, newsletters (and your blog :p) competing for my attention… maybe I need to make a study schedule (and I thought I was done with school).

Awesome post as always.

Matt

Hey Matthew,

I find the same… there’s a lot competing for
your attention, but if you cut back who you subscribe
to and read everything they send… it saves time.

Always amazed by what people are giving away.

I love this… it’s one of my favorite techniques. I get TONS of email because I’m constantly subscribing to new lists, and some folks think I’m nuts to want to sort through all of it. I always say, it’s one of the best ways to get trained and see what everyone else is doing!

Great post, Jason. As usual :) .

Wow! Spam Email – Boy do I get it! (ha). However, from time to time there is a little golden nugget in there somewhere.

With regards to how I start my morning, I like to relax, some fruit, sugar puffs cereal (a childish cereal here in the UK :) and… wait for it…

Lately I watch an episode of “The Hills”, we get it here on satellite TV, I know I am sad! lol – Then its on the Mac for business!

Nice post J!

Oh man Jason,

I get like 50 to 100 emails a day!

But like you said, there are some gems in there, too.

My morning?
I start off on an exercise bike for 45 minutes to an hour,
showered and dressed by 7:30,
have a smoothie and coffee,
read the paper,

and time for work by 9.

What can I say, I’m a simple man of routine, Jason.

Hey Jason,

You just gave me a new outlook on my outlook folder. I usually skip over everything I don’t recognize.

I never thought of it all as gold nuggets and free training. If any of you guys want to get 15 emails a day from the same guy, opt in to a Howie Schwartz offer. He sends an email with PDF’s and something different for sale every waking hour. (and several while I sleep)

Hah Chris!

I don’t think I want 15 e-mails a day from the same guy,
but you made me curious. Now I want to see what
he has to say.

Hani  on February 16th, 2010

Hey Jason,

I made a conscious decision late last year to unsubscribe from many of my mailing lists. I found them very distracting and unproductive.

Another thing I do is use the filter option in Gmail to automatically send these types of email (archive them) into a specific “label” in my account (they don’t show up in my main inbox). This way, my inbox stays clean and I can view these distracting emails when I have time.

I posted a video on BetterNetworker today about how to stay organized with Gmail and around the 1:50 min mark I show you how to setup a filter for anyone who is interested.

Cheers,
Hani

P.S – Don’t worry Jason, I really enjoy you newsletter so it definitely didn’t cut from my list :)

Good Morning Jason,

Gosh you crack me up. Always enjoy your posts :)

I’m in a routine. Start out the same way every morning and the first thing I do is check my inbox. Then the rest of my ‘folders’ as I channel everything into folders so it’s easier to follow all the newsletters. I check my Spam folder too, but don’t read everything in there. Just scan the headlines for interesting stuff.

Last thing I do before going to bed is checking my inbox again. (Maybe that’s why I’m up till WAY after midnight, because I follow up on everything that needs following up on before I go to bed.)

Jason Reply:

Glad to hear that Ilka,

Hey Jason,

I wish gmail’s mass unsubscribe would have worked.

I use an email address just for mailing lists that I don’t want to read every day or set up labels in gmail so they skip the inbox and I can just look at them at a future time.

I also am trying to only check email later in the day after I get my most important things done. Makes me more proactive than reactive in my daily activities.

p.s. Have you considered inline comments?

[Reply]

Jason Reply:

Hey Justin,

Definitely looking into inline comments. So far
the widgets I’ve tried are ugly as sin… and the
settings are funky.

Gosh, I’ve tried about five different things.

Great post again Jason,

Breakfast and personal development for 30 min. 1st thing in the morning.

I learned a cool idea on a training call yesterday I’ve been working on incorporating. It was suggested not to check your e-mail first thing in the morning because you can get sidetracked into staying too long and not before you go to bed b/c there may be some e-mails that keep you up at night.

Instead, check it about mid evening and he said he checks his 2-3 times per week, but for those of us that are like “Eegads”, once a day is okay.

What I’ve been playing with is checking e-mail twice a day. 15 minutes before my morning training call and 15 minutes before my evening training call. That way you have to be done in a certain amount of time.

Now, I know for you Jason you may need a little longer in there since this is your “niche”.

Speaking of indulging into trainings on a small budget, most people should be able to get hundreds of hours of training in the back office of the business they belong too for FREE. That’s where about 8-10 hrs./wk of mine comes from.

Hope everyone has an Awesome Day!!

~Rhonda

Jason isn’t there some advice about being careful what you ask for??? Ha ha

I always start my day with my inbox, basically cos if I don’t and I have tried… I just can’t focus on anything until I know what’s in there!

All the free stuff is great although as with anything, getting lost in your in box for too long can become a far too comfortable place away from doing what we must do to make money! I know because I used to do this far too often but it’s a lesson learned thankfully!

Cheers
Marcus

I thought I was the only one that started my day off that way——-before and after walking the dogs & time on my rebounder. I agree it gets my mind working and inspired—or not—as to what I want to do in my marketing. (It is amazing what wonderful people are giving away these days).

It’s nice to know I’m in good company!

As for dogs…

I love it…

Your dogs already sound like they have
personality.

I half expected “Wookie” to be a Shi-tzu!

But Yorkies are small dogs, right?

I don’t have dogs… but I love them.

Used to walk a friends’ dog every night for
exercise… love my walks… and dogs love
theirs too… so it was a good fit.

That dog wasn’t small though. It was some
kind of weird corgi/german shepherd mix!

Or at least, that’s what it looked like. haha

I actually created a spam email that starts with spam@reeeeeeeeeeeeeblockahhh.com (not actual email) that I sign up for what I think is interesting and neat.

I let a very few things come into my actual email that I use daily for communication.

I save all my signed up for spam and sort and keep in file folders in that spam email.

I figure that the ones that grab me with titles are great for inspiration for my own emails. I then do two things put all them into a separate “favorite” file then forward those to my actual email address because I don’t want to lose them.

Saves time, saves time and um saves time.
