Tiger’s Secret And Responsible Network Marketing…
It’s not every day your wife chases you down with a golf club for cheating on her with a porn star.
But that seems to be what people are saying about Tiger Woods lately…
I’m not taking sides, but I did come across an interesting quote of his last night I wanted to share with you. Strangely enough, it was about feeling “entitled” to things…
“Money and fame made me believe I was entitled.
I was wrong and foolish.” — Tiger Woods
Now, it’s only human nature to think about yourself, want what other people have, and want something for nothing. These are all traits that help you survive. But sometimes, we all act a little like Tiger Woods and take it way too far…
The Hunter Eats The Baby Starves…
In some tribes, for instance, it’s common for the hunter to eat while the mother and child go hungry. It’s understood that the hunter is entitled to certain privileges that the mother and child are not. Because when the hunter starves… they all do.
With that said, we’re living in 2010…
People feel entitled to the Internet, Electricity, and Automobiles. They feel entitled to benefits that go above and beyond the value they bring to the table. They feel that the world owes them a living. Almost like they have a divine right to live like spoiled brats…
“Don’t feel entitled to anything you didn’t sweat and struggle for.”
–Marian Wright Edelman
The day you start your first business, your eyes open wide. You finally know how hard it is to run a business. You’re amazed when somebody is is able to employ anybody at all. You’re shocked by how ungrateful many of these people are for their jobs. You start to see both sides of the picture…
“Nobody owes anybody a living, but everybody is entitled to a chance.”
–Jack Dempsey
You are not entitled to Internet, Electricity, Cable, and Widgets. These are miracles of modern society. But there are some things you are entitled to. There are certain human rights, that most of us agree are set in stone…
Like Dempsey said: “everybody is entitled to a chance.”
And that’s why I love Network Marketing
In our industry, you can get started with telephone, a piece of paper, and a pencil. You might be wealthy or broke, clever or dull, male or female. It really doesn’t matter.
Because nobody is entitled to success in Network Marketing.
Success is something you earn. And in our industry, more than any other, there are no excuses. You are entirely responsible for your success.
Isn’t that beautiful?
To your success,

Yeah, it is easy to take things for granted alright.
I definitely agree, many people underestimate how hard it is to run your own business, they think you have all the luxury because you work at home, but you still have to work as hard as the next guy!
However, I wouldn’t change anything for the world, home based business is a wealth of opportunity.
Thanks for the post J.

I have to confess, I do take things
for granted myself…
Like my health. I’ve been blessed with that.

Hi J
Those who feel they are entitled to success will never have it as they wont know what success is.
If you gave me a DB9s, that would be nice of you, but if I worked my ar*e off and brought it myself I would appreciate it and cherish so much more.
Network marketing is great. Everyone is on an even playing field. Everyone has the chance to achieve just as much and more than the highest achievers.
I feel sorry for those who feel success is going to be handed to them, I’m working for mines!
Great post J

Jason,
I love this post!
Honestly I think the “entitlement disease” is running wild in our society. It is so easy to catch because it is a much more contagious than H1N1!
I refer to it as a disease because it holds you back from what you can achieve.
I feel so blessed that I was raised in an environment where there was absolutely no room for entitlement.
I grew up on a dairy farm in a big family. A farm is a great place to learn that you reap what you sow. It takes time and hard work to raise a crop. But, with the right soil, nutrients, and work, harvest time is bountiful.
So I agree with you. Stop thinking about what you deserve and start focusing on what you can sow! If you can sow in your business, harvest time will come and it will reward you for all of your hard work!

Give a man a house and he breaks out the windows. It’s the lottery mentallity and 95% of lottery winners are broke in a couple of years (usually less). That is why the fruit of hard work is a delicacy enjoyed by so few.(that’s mine feel free to quote me):) Always good to be reminded what it’s about.

Richard, I even heard a story one time
where the people were given a house.
Instead of chopping firewood they ripped the
place apart and burned the window sills and porch
to heat the place.

What a great post! Like Josh said, it really makes you think.
We are so spoiled that we take a lot for granted. I’m guilty too. And I have to remind myself sometimes not to get so upset when the internet goes out right in the middle of me doing something. I should be thankful that someone came up with it in the first place and gave me a chance to connect with the world.
Apropos chance … I feel network marketing is the only industry where the average man or woman has an equal chance for success.

Hey Ilka,
Agreed,
I even take it one step further… because how
many businesses can you start for almost nothing
these days?
Or at least a relatively low investment. I mean, try to
start a retail store, or restaurant, now that’s expensive.

Exactly! Try to buy a McDonald’s franchise. And even if you have the money to do it, you will be bound by THEIR rules to make your hamburgers the exact same way they tell you too.

Yo, Ja’! Great topic.
“Entitlement”… it is a strange word. That almost sounds greedy, selfish. I believe it is a PRIVILEGE to be alive. I think we are all ungrateful at some level.
Here is a challenge for everyone to try… make a list of 50 ‘things’(Not necessary material things.) YES 50! That you are most grateful for in your life. The first few things are a given… JOB/CAREER,
FAMILY/FRIENDS,
LOVED ONES,
GOD/SPIRTUALITY,
ROOF OVER OUR HEAD
…And so on. Lets see what you can come with for the other 45 ‘things’.
I think we get so caught up in life… all we think about is what can I get in life. Is it really about hard work and earning rewards? I thought it was about ‘GIVING… the more you give in life that is most valuable… then you will receive just the same or even greater in value.
Thanks for the deep thoughts, Jason!

Jason,
Great post. I have owned/own several small businesses in the past and the sense of entitlement in employees is incredible. One of the reasons that small businesses, and for that matter any business, are so hard to make successful is the people issues. You hit the nail on the head about the attraction of this industry to me. I can’t blame anyone except for me, myself, and I for my success or failure in this industry.
On another note, I don’t agree with what Tiger did, but no one can dispute he is still one hell of a golfer! People seem to forget that in all of this mess.
Super post,
Eric McMillan

Hi Jason,
I had no idea where you were going with this post when I saw the “Tiger Woods” headline (LOL).
You actually threw a little “Simpsons” style plot twist in there!
Anyway, I can definitely say that I grew up with the OPPOSITE problem…
I grew up working construction jobs with my Dad and by’ I’ll tell ya — I’ve always thought hard work is the ONLY way to make a living.
– Until I learned that working SMART is the best way.
Pair that with working hard to “propel the rocket ship off the ground”…
And before you know it, business is booming!

Yours seems to be booming right now. I can
tell by visiting your blog.
It keeps growing.
There’s something to be said for taking a break
from time to time too. Working hard only gets you so
far. But one good idea, is worth millions.
The problem is, most people aren’t willing to put in
the work when it’s needed…

This day in age, this needs to be known and thank you for sharing that.
I truly believe it has everything to do for being grateful for what we do have.
When recognized, then we may be “entitled” to have. It all starts there.
And that’s reason why I love this business, I start there and the rest happens. It’s pure fun!
Good times J, good times!

Wow Jason! What a post!
This is heavy stuff and I agree for a 100% with it!
Here in Belgium, where I live, we have a lot of people (actually thousands of them) who feel they are entitled to everything they feel like, even without working…
Our country is virtually bankrupt, more and more businesses move to other (cheaper) countries, unemployment has never been higher, and still people feel they must get everything for free…
When you run a business yourself, when you see how hard you have to work everyday and you know you wont get a penny if you don’t produce, this mentality makes you sick.
For this reason I’m convinced that network marketing is the best solution for a lot of people, cause – like you say it – “Success is something you earn. And in our industry, more than any other, there are no excuses. You are entirely responsible for your success”… and that’s something a lot of people need to learn!
Thanks for this great post!

Great Post!
I am usually never without words but this post has my mind just churning and grinding away in silence. I look at my life and I feel I live without entitlements but I have them at every turn. As an American I am a spoiled brat. I have a flashy gas guzzling car that everyone stares at. My house is big and adorned with silly decorating that some people call “Fine Art”. I wear expensive clothes that don’t last long or fall out of fashion in 12 months or less. I have watches, rings and other jewels that cost a fortune to own. I have a big fat bank account that seems to be constantly full.
Your post has challenged me to look at my life and lifestyle and ask, “Am I entitled to what I have?” These are entitlements that I feel I have earned. I have worked hard in my past and I do every day to have and maintain these things. Everyday I push myself to be a better person even if I don’t succeed I know that I gave it my best or in my case today I failed because I didn’t get off my couch to help anyone or do anything. I love the quote you put on your post.
“Don’t feel entitled to anything you didn’t sweat and struggle for.”
–Marian Wright Edelman
I will have to question myself to seek approval on the entitlements that I have. If I live everyday with purpose then I am entitled to what I have. The moment I sit and expect everything and give nothing then I am not worthy of the entitlements that I have created for myself. So now I need to get off my comfy couch right this minute and get to the gym!
Thanks for the motivation J.
Keep up the great work.

Sad but true fact of life and how many people operate by default, to believe they are entitled. As it says in the good book: “Lazy people are soon poor;hard workers get rich.”
I too like network marketing for exactly the same reason. The harder (and smarter) I work, the luckier I seem to get.

Fantastic post Jason!
Just busy playing catch-up here this morning and wanted to comment on this article…
Your insight to some employees’ attitudes is dead-on. Funny though, how being out of work, changes the way some view their “JOBS”…
After having been without a new home to build for so many months, all of a sudden, I’ve got some real enthusiastic, Gung-ho and motivated carpenters working with me…
Seems our focus of what’s important changes when there’s money in the bank, ehh?
Thanks again for your insight…Now, it’s off to Ezine to write an article, then we’re headed to the Job Site.
Make it a Great Day!
