3 Habits For Successful Internet Marketing With Blogs

“Success is a habit which can be acquired by the exercise of a moderate amount of intelligence, a great deal of hard work, and an unswerving sincerity of purpose.” – Major General Herbert Leonard Grills

Now, you’re probably going to groan when you see how obvious these tips are. But, you know what?

Success isn’t about magic tricks, lucky leprechauns, and sparkly unicorns – It’s about doing what works and making a habit out of it…

So Here’s 3 Habits For Successful Internet Marketers…

#1 – Blog Post A Day To Keep Poverty Away:

You don’t have to be a writer to post each and every day. You can post Video, Audio, Pictures, or even other people’s content – with their permission of course. And, a blog post a day will go a very long way.

#2 – 10 Minutes A Day Keeps Twitter Okay

Honestly, I don’t recommend spending more than 10 minutes on Twitter (or any Social Media site) at a time. You’ll get sucked in, lost in the whirlpools of content, and never find your way out again. With that said, you can do just about anything you need to do with Twitter in three 10-minute spurts a day. (The same advice applies to all social media sites.)

#3 – E-mail Away When You Have Something To Say:

Obviously, if somebody cares enough to give you their name and e-mail then they WANT to hear from you. When you post something new (or have something interesting to say) let them know. Common sense, I know, but it works better than magic pixie-dust.

Now, maybe you’re already doing this?

If you are then why not leave a message for the “Better Bunch” (that’s what Tommy DiPietro calls us all) and share how these simple “secrets” have changed your business…

Yeah, I know this is all common sense…

But this is what really works.

Would you mind, if I asked you to “Retweet” and “Share” this post on Twitter and Facebook today? I’ll leave that up to you.

But it really would be appreciated. :-D

The one little secret I’ll share is post everyday. Once the search engines get their hands on your post. It’s like creating a library catalog just with you content.

Creating a successful habit feels like torture in the beginning, but after a while it becomes..well..a habit! A thing which comes automatically like driving a car.

This simple advice is great. Its success habits that has by business going from strength to strength.

Hey Jason,

Our minds are on the same track. I just posted an article asking for opinions on social media.

I know I spend about 30-45 minutes on FB and Twitter each day, but these are two of my main social media focuses.

You’re right, you need to make them a habit, which means daily.

I think common sense needs to be used more often.

Rhonda :)

Now, if only we could make common sense “common” :-)

Common sense isn’t all that common. I really appreciated this simple tips, especially the one on limiting social media. I *know* what you mean about getting “sucked in”.

Have a great day

Hi Jason,

Great tips!

I just started last week with the “post a day” habit and my Alexa ranking is already dropping faster.

Now, if I only could find a way not to get sucked in to the whirlpool of social media sites, I’d be okay.

Your tip of “10 minutes” is awesome and certainly one I’ll start implementing immediately.

Thanks for sharing!

Make it an awesome day!

Hey Jason,

These tips are simple — but they DO work!

Once I decided to post everyday, things really started taking off.

Although, sometimes I’ll skip a day if I wrote a truly “epic” post to make sure it doesn’t get overlooked.

Then, like you said, I’ll send an email to my list saying, “Hey guys, don’t miss out on this truly “epic” post!” LOL

[Reply]

Jason Reply:

Derek,

You’re a step a head of me. ;-)

That sounds like a strategy I’ll be adding to bag of tricks.

That rocks.

Hi, I am new in your community but I really appreciate the tips you share with me every day. I try to apply at least one new thing a day. I am consistent and I make sure I am in front of people every day. I recently started doing video, its a lot of fun!

[Reply]

Jason Reply:

Hey Lynda,

You’ll find that video is faster than writing articles too if you stick to it.

Not as good for SEO…

But every medium has it’s own benefits. :-)

*Groan* LOL. I literaly just wrote about how simple consistency revolutionized the results of not only my business but my entire life.

It’s always the little things that matter most.

Staying in a rhythm will help a lot, I think it’s good to be task oriented and knowing what you want to do next at every turn will also make a difference.

Twila Jacobs  on April 13th, 2010

Hey Jason,

Those are some great tips. I typically only post 3 times a week b/c sometimes I have trouble thinking of something valuable to pass along. That’s a great idea you have using simple things such as just a quote and what it means to you.

One question though. How do you build new relationships on social media sites in just 10 minutes a day?

Just curious of your thoughts on that.

Have a great day!
Twila

[Reply]

Jason Reply:

Hey Twila,

It’s not that you can build a relationship on Twitter in ten minutes. But you can only write so many tweets to any given person, and share so much of their content any given day.

Twitter unlocks the door.

Consistency is the key.

I can also totally relate to getting sucked into the social media hole.

I’m having trouble with the DAILY part. I’m doing good if I get 3 posts a week to my blog. I think it’s because I tend to think it needs to be a full article. I am trying to change that thinking because I know sometimes quick tips are just the thing someone may get help from. Thanks for this post.

[Reply]

Jason Reply:

Hey Melodie,

Sounds like you might also be suffering from high standards. It’s a good thing.

But you’ll find that you get way faster at the daily posts as time goes by.

Not every day is a “homerun”. :-)

Tommy DiPietro  on April 13th, 2010

Hey J and the Better Bunchers!!!

Haha, love it!! It has a nice sound to it, thanks to Ilka for making it stick.

Thanks for the mention.

The social media can suck you in. But that are ways to work it to your advantage. I know people who generate 100 leads a day on Facebook and LinkedIN and use that as their primary source of lead generation, but that is not for everyone. I need to stick to your 1 hour rule.

Personally, my goal is to either post a blog/article or video every day. Then spend that hour promoting THAT material on your social media.
And then of course spending time hangin with the Better Bunch aka the j”A”y Team.

This is what did it for me, hanging here, learning from Josh. Derek, Chris, Jerome, Twila, Eric, Mitchell, Ilka, Susanna, Dwayne, Wayne, Marcus & the Tribe.

I can go on and on, lots of cool peeps here. Sorry if I left someone out.

Dwayne wrote a great post about getting into action and making it habit to do it EVERY day. Not just make a comment but step UP.

Have a great day!!

I thankyou for you short but to the point advice. I had months teaching myself what to do to set up my Social Media ,I tried to get on everything. I realise short but sweet is better than drowning trying to swim with all thats happening. I love the saying ” He’s swimming with the sharks , lets see what he is wearing when the tide goes out” It is so true when you try too hard and get know where, then you have a break and suddenly followers contact you?

[Reply]

Jason Reply:

Hey Terry,

I’m with you on the short and sweet part.

I think the reason people are drowning so-to-speak is that they try to do everything in a week… when a few minutes a day is all they need.

Consistency and persistency win at the end of the day.

Hey Jason,

A post a day… that is the one hang up I have right now.

I just need to get my mind wrapped around the idea that every post doesn’t have to be an “epic post” (thanks for the term Derek!).

Of course they all need to have value, I wouldn’t skimp on that, but they don’t all have to be “epic”.

Thanks for those reminders!

Susanna

[Reply]

Jason Reply:

Gosh,

If I wrote an “epic” post every day I would never get anything else done at all.

Sometimes you just have to sling some mud up and see how much sticks.

The happy surprises are what makes it all worth while.

Wayne Wu  on April 13th, 2010

Hey Jas,

Most people probably already knew this but frequently posting new content also makes the search engines visit you more often, which gets your content index faster, which results in higher SEO rankings.

Hey Jason,

Oh boy… A blog post 5 days a week huh? Do you know hard much of a struggle it is for me to find a few minutes to put out the few I do. I even enlisted my wife (who is a great writer) to put up a post every week so that I could have an easier time keeping it at three.

Right now I write a lot of my posts in my 3 by 5 notebook while in some far away state working 80 hour weeks as an engineer. Your advise, thought true and sincere, makes me want to draw horns and a pitch fork (again) on your smiley little cartoon guy.

Second… I am guilty of spending too much of my time with social media. By the end of the day, I would wonder why I would not have any time to spare towards other areas of business. Again, awesome tip, Jason. Wow… it’s just common sense.
