Hide Your SEO Keywords Like A Chipmunk | MLM SEO Tips
Hey, have you ever seen a chipmunk (or a squirrel) stuff nuts into its cheeks? It’s ridiculous!
Seriously, chipmunks shove peanuts into their cheeks until it looks like their little furry noggins are about to EXPLODE.
What do chipmunks have to do with SEO?
Well, it kinda reminds of the way “SEO Experts” stuff keywords into their websites – only to get banned or “sandboxed” by Google.
So today, I’m going to show you how to hide your keywords in your articles without looking like a greedy little chipmunk – or SEO junkie.
Here’s 5 Ways To Hide Your MLM SEO Keywords:
#1 – In Your Headlines: Okay, so that’s nothing new. Every SEO expert worth his salt will tell you to put your keywords, longtail keywords, in your headlines. But, here’s a sneaky way to do it if you’re struggling with making your SEO headlines people friendly too:
Use dashes, brackets, or even ampersands!
Here’s what I mean:
How To Hide Your SEO Keywords Like A Chipmunk
Becomes:

#2 – In Your H1, H2, H3, tags: I hope I don’t scare anybody off by mentioning a little bit of old-school HTML. But after your main headline, your title tags are a fantastic place to squirrel away some of your keywords too.
NOTE: If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s those little brackets that show up when you look at the code of your blog posts. I highly recommend you learn the ABC’s of HTML if you’re into blogging. It’s not as useful as it used to be – but it’s still handy.
#3 – In Your Anchor/Link Text: Unless you’re heavy into SEO Marketing you’re probably linking to websites with open links like http://www.jasonbetter.com/. But here’s a clever little trick – why not link to your site using your keywords?
For example:
Visit me at http://www.jasonbetter.com/
Becomes:
Click here for Jason Better’s MLM SEO Tips
Isn’t that clever? Well, sorta. If you overdo it with your carefully selected keywords then Google might penalize you. Moderation is the key.
# 4 – In Bolds, Italics, Underlined: Basically, SEO Bots love when you make things easy on them. And while there’s a bit of debate going on about whether or not Bolds, Italics, Highlighting, or Underlining have any real effect on ranking for keywords – it certainly doesn’t hurt – as long as you don’t overdo it.
#5 – In Picture Titles/Alt-Text And Surroundings: When you give your pictures descriptive names, subheads, and alt-text you’re not only helping your readers, you’re making it easier for the Google Bots to crawl your site too.
Putting It All Together
The verdict is still out about how effective some of these SEO strategies are but there’s no doubt that they influence on how Google ranks your pages.
SEO isn’t the sexiest part of your marketing.
But, these little tips can have a big impact over time.
If you enjoyed this article then please share it with your friends on Twitter, Facebook, Or Better Networker. It’s definitely appreciated.

Hey Jason,
All of these methods are awesome! Sometimes I like to hide my keywords in my title just like you mentioned. I learn this from following other great internet marketers.
I saw they were doing this not all the time, but at times when it was hard to create a title with the keyword. I’m glad you exposed it!
Chat with you later…

For sure,
Sometimes it’s just tough to write your keywords into your headlines.
Honestly, I prefer non-keyword headlines.
But when it comes to online marketing. It’s hard to get away from SEO. It’s such a great source of traffic.

The good news, it doesn’t take much extra time.
I mean, you have to headline, name pictures, and so on either way, right?

Jason, are these title tags? I have a place for title tags on my blogs dashboard but it says they are optional.

Jason Reply:

Those would be the title tags in your content.
It’s a carry over from HTML that still comes in handy with Wordpress blogs.
But since your headline is technically your H1 title tag anyway. You can get away with not using them.

J,
An SEO Ninja secret is to use keywords in the images when you save them to a self-hosted file directory. Ever wonder why when you search the picture of Brad Pitt you get a picture of Jason Better?
That’s because he saves all his pictures as Brad_Pitt.jpg.
Lol.
Just kidding. Be careful with this one because I’m sure Big Brother is watching and will “slap” you silly once they figure out how to use a relevant image algorithim of some kind.
In other words,
MLM_Presentation_Secret.jpg will be much more SEO friendly than, Mark_Presentation.jpg
Ya feel me? Try searching on an image you uploaded to your self-hosted WP site and you’ll see what I mean.

I’m with you Mark.
It’s a very dangerous game to stuff the wrong keywords anywhere with Google.
Keyword stuffing went the way of the dinosaur.
The image thing is debatable too.
Some experts are saying Google ignores the names and goes for the content near the picture to rank the image now – I think it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Google is secretive.

No prob,
It’s hard to get them all in every article.
I’m big on headlines… so sometimes I won’t even optimize them at all… not for SEO.
I know that’s a faux pas in SEO.
But I try to write for people first.

Great tips Jason! Google loves all of these things, as it helps them understand your content and links.
It’s just when your SEO strategies get ‘unnatural’ that Google gets suspicious. If every anchor text link to your site says “MLM SEO Tips”, that doesn’t look natural.
So change it up to “MLM Tips for SEO”, “SEO Tips for MLM”, etc..
And don’t always point your anchor text links to the home page, as that’s not natural either. It would be more natural for incoming links to point to blog posts or silo pages (which list all the posts for a particular category)

Hi Jason,
I do think Google is ranking images by the keywords that are in the article.
I’ve been finding this to be true when I do a Google image search for some keywords I’m researching…
and find my own pictures ranking for words I know I didn’t include in the alt text, but were in the article, tags, or categories.
This is awesome stuff… Looking forward to more!

Hi Jason,
Thanks for the tips. I use most of these consistently.
The one that drives me crazy the most is headlines. It’s a huge challenge to be creative and include keywords in the right places.
I hear what you are saying about writing for people first. When you have a large following it does not matter as much but when you want people to find you to begin with then in my head keywords matter more.
Am I being too “technical”?
Marcus
[Reply]
Jason Reply:
May 11th, 2010 at 7:02 am
I don’t think you’re being too technical Marcus.
This is an issue that plagues me too.
For example, this article here is currently ranked number in it’s Search Engine Results Position for the keywords MLM SEO Tips.
But the catch is, it would have received more shares and tweets with a better headline.
So it’s always a trade off.
I believe you should always write for people first then SEO the content later as best as you can. Now, some experts will disagree with me but here’s my logic:
The whole point of your article headline is to get people to read it. It doesn’t matter if a gazillion people see it in the long run if nobody reads past the headline.
Because your headline is the only thing that will get a skeptical reader to dig in and read.

This reminds me of the saying about hiding something in plain site. Linking to your website with keywords is the most powerful thing you can do. With enough links to your site with this you can come up #1 for a Google search for that keyword even if that keyword is not on your site. There was a famous story about a group doing that with the Scientology site using the keywords “dangerous cult.”
