Measure clicks.I’m amazed by how few people actually measure their results in social media. It’s not hard to do. You can simply share a link with a popular link shortener like bit.ly and see your clicks in real time.
Test. There’s a big difference between measuring and testing. First you measure then you set up a test. It’s the age old scientific method. Remember, you can only test one variable at time. All other variables have to remain the same. Why test? Because you can get a 100% increase in your results in hours instead of months… that’s why you test.
Add social media plug-ins to your blog. This is quick way to drive a lot more traffic to your blog. You can add a “retweet” button or even a collection of social bookmarking links. This is really easy to do and it helps your readers share their favorite posts with their friends too. You’re doing them a favor.
Add a “call to action” to your posts. This might seem a little basic but a lot of people drive traffic to their blogs without asking their readers to act. The fact is, we get a lot more satisfaction when we contribute to the blogs we enjoy through comments and sharing. So you’re doing your readers a favor when you tell them what to do. Besides, It doesn’t hurt to ask.
A few more tips that make all the difference…
Get involved. All too often people get caught up producing content and forget to be human. Don’t be shy, get out there and comment on blogs in a friendly way. Share your favorite resources. Shine the spotlight on people you respect. It’s one of the fastest ways to grow your presence online. And you’ll make a lot of friends too.
Find out what people want. You might know this as the “golden rule” of selling and personal relations. But it’s easier today than ever before. Because there are whole sites devoted to ranking the content people share in social media. This takes the guesswork out of giving people what they really want.
Get emotional. This should come as no surprise but human beings are emotional creatures. One of the oldest rules in marketing is that people buy for emotional reasons not logical ones. Don’t be afraid to pull some heartstrings… the purse strings are attached.
Obviously, there’s more to social media than these 7 tips, but these are some of the big ones.
Believe it or not, I had a friend who went from poverty to his dream job using little more than these tips here. Because they work. It doesn’t take 101 secrets to turn your life around. It takes action.
