Jason Better’s Blogging Tips…

Jason Better BlogWEDNESDAY 7:40 A.M. I stumble outta bed, make my way to the kitchen and put on a cuppa coffee. My eyes hurt, I wish I could go back to bed but that never helps anybody.

So I check my e-mail instead. Sip coffee. Too much sugar and head over to my nerve center at JasonBetter.com. The first thing I do (even before I write) is read your comments.

And if there’s someone new, I go visit their blog to see what’s up.

It might not seem that important but I think it’s even more important than writing a new post. No readers. No blog. And I think it’s the little things like these that really make a huge difference in the results you get online.

So today, I put together a little list of internet marketing house-keeping for bloggers. It’s not the glorious side of blogging but it keeps me on track… and I’m wondering if you have the same routine yourself?

Jason Better’s Blogging Tips…

• Read your reader’s blogs. I think you’ll really be amazed by some of the talented and successful people who read your blog over time. I know I am. You guys keep me on my toes.

• Print out your worst posts. Read them, ask yourself why they flopped. Why they got so few comments or “retweets”. I know this hurts, but it helps an awful lot.

• Reread your best posts. I know this gets a little tedious but I like to reread my best posts to see what I got right. Because I’m always trying to one-up myself.

• Delete your duds. Every once in a while you’ll write a post that’s just embarassing to you later on. Don’t be afraid to delete a post if you think it goes against your personal brand. We all make mistakes.

• Review your headlines. Are you repeating yourself? Sometimes we get so caught up with work… we lose aim. I know I’m as guilty of this as anyone.

• Stay on top of plug-ins. There’s a lot of wordpress plug-ins that can make a big difference on your blog. The tweetmeme “retweet” button. Akismet for spam.

And most important of all…

I strive to make one improvement… just one… to my blogging every single day. I think that’s solid advice for any blogger. At the end of the month you’ll feel real good about yourself.

And that’s something even money can’t buy.

These are just a few simple ideas that help me stay on track.

I’d like to know what you think. :-)

P.S. One more tip. You’d be amazed by how much extra traffic you can get by adding a little green “retweet” button and asking people to share your posts on Twitter.
