The Social Secret Of Network Marketing Success…
Every once in a while I’m completely shocked by the feedback I get on this blog. I mean, some days a post drops like a rock. Other days I’m completely flabbergasted when a post goes “viral” on Twitter.
Gosh, a while back I even had a post that pulled sixty “retweets”.
I’m not kidding. It was called “15 Rejections To Answer Objections” and it’s one of the more popular posts on this blog. It pulled almost 50 of those “retweets” in a single day. The rest added up over time.
I wish I could say it was the best post I’ve ever written. That it was like heavenly angels came down and guided my pen, but that’s simply not the case. Really there’s only one reason this blog post was so popular on Twitter – SOCIAL PROOF.
Mike Dillard “tweeted” it to his fans and they loved it. Because it was popular with them, the “tweets” racked up. The more tweets it got, well, the more tweets it got. It’s nothing more than Social Proof.
The Psychology Of Influence
I don’t know if you’ve read the book Influence – The Psychology Of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini, Ph.D. but a large part of his book talks about the scientific research he conducted on one trigger in particular – Social Proof.
What Is Social Proof Really?
If you don’t know what Social Proof is, it’s nothing more than the so-called “herd instinct”. It’s the idea that we tend to look at what others do before we act on our own. We follow the leader.
The really cool insight Cialdini had that other scientists did not was that social proof was a much more powerful motivator than anybody used to think.
But how can you use Social Proof to build your business?
Well, I have a few ideas. You might have some of your own you would like to share after reading this list too.
Here’s How To Build Your Credibility With Social Proof:
Technology…
• Add the Tweetmeme plugin for Twitter.
• Add a Twitter Counter to your blog.
• Add Facebook share buttons to your blog.
• Do everything you can to get more comments.
• Do everything you can to drive traffic to your blog.
• If you have testimonials then use them.
(make sure you comply with the FTC)
Associations…
• Join the Association Of Better Networkers.
• Consider joining your local Chamber of Commerce.
Extra credibility tips…
• Upload pictures of your lifestyle, friends, and family.
• Upload video testimonials from your team.
• Network with big name network marketers.
• Master a valuable skill like PPC or copywriting.
• Further your education with a diploma or degree.
Mindset…
• Stop acting like a follower – be a leader
• Get your head straight – attitude.
Any More Tips?
Gosh, I’m sure there’s more, so maybe you could help me out. If you have any ideas you would like to add then drop a comment today. I would love to hear what you think even if this post doesn’t rack up the “tweets” like the last one.
See you soon,
Jason The “Better Networker”

Hmmm… Twila, I’m guessing that
you’re referring to the plugins?
If not, please let me know. I may have misunderstood your question.
All about the mentioned plugins:
A twitter counter plugin can be
found on twittercounter.com there’s
also a few you can install from your
dashboard if you’re familiar with
installing plugins… just search for
“Twitter Counter”
the “Tweetmeme retweet” button can be
found on tweetmeme.com. It’s tough to spot
it on their site but if you creep through it
slowly you’ll find it.
You can also install that from the dashboard
of your wordpress blog too, like most other
widgets.
The “facebook share” button you can find by doing
a plugin search in your wordpress dashboard under the “add plugins” link. Not sure what their official link is though. But more people are having trouble with that one due to the latest upgrade of wordpress being incompatible with it.
I hope that helps Twila. I know I’ve got a few posts on this site that explain these in more detail. I should have probably linked them in this article but they appear on your left… at this point in time… under my links for “most popular articles”.
Oh, and thank you for wishing me a Happy New Year Twila! Much appreciated. I hope you’re blessed by a good year too.

Thanks Jason,
You understood correctly, I was in a hurry when I read and posted. I’m familiar with installing plugin’s and had done a search for the plugin, however I wasn’t sure which one did what by the description.
Thanks!

Well I guess now I know
which book to read next
It’s really amazing the impact
social proof has on people.
For instance, if you see someone
on facebook who has 5,000 friends,
The immediate response is “WoW… This
guy knows what he’s doing…”
Like Mike says, It’s all about the
alpha effect between people.
Great value J!
Thanks mate,
Cheers!

Hey Adam,
No prob man.
That book’s one of the greats. Recommended
by Mike Dillard and a buncha other top marketers
too. Well worth the read. Mine’s actually sitting in front
of me right now.

Hi Jason,
I have a really good one:
Write an article or make a video about something that people are dying to know more about.
Pick something you know a lot about and make it REALLY good, really useful info.
Next thing you know, you’re the “expert” and people ask you for more — they can’t get enough
Everyone has SOMETHING they are really good at that most people aren’t.
Start there.
Sincerely,
Derek

Isn’t that the truth.
I hear people say “I’m not an expert at anything”
or “I feel like I’m pretending” but I think most people
under-estimate what they really know..
Almost everyone who comments on this blog has
specialized experience in one area or another.
From what I can tell… I could learn an awful lot
from everybody here. Way cool.

Hey Mike,
Glad you stopped by.
Man, I think I need to follow my own advice
more often. There’s a few things on that list
I haven’t got around to yet too.
I hope you enjoy the book when you get a copy.
It’s fascinating and dirt cheap.

Jason, bonjour et bon année from France.
Two to add to your list:
1.Don’t network to gain Prospects, only network with Prospects.
2. Only network in one place, not many places.

What’s up Jason?
Had a bit of scheduling issues come up for my weekend plans, so here we are…
People love to see others’ mishaps. You know, ‘rubber neckers’ and ‘looky Lous’.
Maybe, just light your hair on fire and take off running down the street. Folks are sure to follow just to see you burn! ;-0
Now that’d be one way to turn up the social heat and light a ‘recruiting firestorm’.
Thanks Jason,
Mitchell Dillman

Mitchell, you crack me up.
I’m sure Tom Challan would
love your interpretation of firestorm.
I see that one of your new posts on
Better Networker is trending too.
Good job. Good job.
