Will Google Wave Drown Network Marketing As We Know It?
Hey, I don’t know if you’ve been splashed by Google Wave yet, but it’s definitely making waves in the social media pool. So thought I’d give it a surf as soon as I got the invite a few days back because I was wondering what this really means for home based business owners like you.
Google Wave At First Flush…
What really amazes me, is how easy Google Wave it is to use. Which I think is a sure sign it will catch on fast. It’s a lot like Twitter but with all kinds of cool options for uploading extra content like videos, links and more.
Actually, it’s a lot like EVERY social media platform. It combines the best of e-mail, blogging, and even instant messaging all in one powerful and easy to use package.
So What Does This Mean For Network Marketers Like You?
While it’s a bit too early to tell what kind of impact Google Wave will have on personal communication or internet marketing… if this thing explodes it’s going to be a big giant slayer.
Will Google Wave Harpoon The Whale?
Some experts have expressed concern that Google Wave could replace Twitter as the next hot social media platform. Which is a huge claim considering that right now it’s mostly a tool for team play. And I’m not sure if you’ve tested out Google Wave, but it doesn’t seem to have the “follow me and I’ll follow you” widgetry that Twitter is famous for.
Maybe, I just missed that… and you could fill me in?
But who really knows? One application or mod later and the whole thing could change the world anyway. I just think it’s too early to tell.
(UPDATE: While I was writing this post I heard about a Twitter gadget that you could actually use inside of Google Wave. Very cool. It’s like Google’s using a net instead of a harpoon to catch the Twitter crowd.)
“Stuff” Is Most Definitely In The Works…
People are already working on apps that use Google Wave for customer support, marketing and education. It wouldn’t take much for this to go mainstream with Google’s massive control of search engine traffic.
And then what happens? I mean, how do we cope with a world and social tools that are constantly changing? Did you spend the last four years building a home based business only to have it all wiped out by Google and a few social media experts?
I don’t think so.
Why Google Wave Doesn’t Matter To Network Marketers
I’m going to tell you why I think Google Wave doesn’t really matter to marketers who already have their act together. It’s because the same advice and strategies that work for today’s social media platforms will almost certainly work on future platforms too.
I’m not saying that you should ignore Google Wave. On the contrary, you should try to adopt new technology before your peers do. Because the early adopters almost always make out like bandits.
With that said, human nature barely changes at all and technology is out-pacing us. So network marking probably isn’t going to change much with Google Wave. At the least, it will make it easier for us to communicate and train our teams.
At best, it will reset the status quo and a new string of “experts” will make a lot of money.
Because Human Nature Is Human Nature:
- People will always be motivated by emotion.
- Being rude will always be a “faux pas”.
- People will always want to feel important and respected.
- Being helpful will almost always make you friends.
- And SPAMMING STRANGERS will never be acceptable.
Human Nature Will Never Be Changed By The Next Big Thing
That sounds like a big claim but it really isn’t because human nature has barely changed over the last thousand years. People will always be motivated by desire for gain and a fear of loss. People will still want to feel fulfilled and happy. And people will still have frustrations, pains, and fears.
But The Human Heart Will Keep On Ticking
And the marketers who master “heart strings” will always make a big buck while everyone else scratches around in the dirt for chicken feed. It’s frustrating, because it’s a hard skill to master but it’s the heart of all good marketing and selling.
I’m Talking About Total Wealth And Security
You could lose your online business to the next “Google slap”. You could lose you home in a hurricane. Your boat in a storm. Your apartment in a fire. But If you lose everything except your knowledge of human nature… you’ll get it all back and more.
And here’s a solid bit of advice that will help us surf the Google Wave and any other new-fangled techno trend ahead.
Invest in human nature. it brings the best returns.
To your success,
Jason The Better Networker
P.S. I’d really like to know what you think about Google Wave and it’s impact on our industry. How do you think it will change the way we do business or communicate with our teams?

Jason,
I agree totally with your comment about human nature. The tools we use may and will change from time to time but the underlying nature of humanity will remain constant.

Hello again Peter,
I think we all tend to get caught up
in the widgets. Which is a good thing
as long as we don’t let them blind us…
I guess.
But when we open our eyes, we don’t see
“prospects” or “leads” just people like us
who want help reaching their dreams.
